Sultan Counsels Police Service Commission

ThisDay:  From Mohammed Aminu in Sokoto.11.14.2008

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has challenged the Police Service Commission(PSC), to redouble its efforts in improving welfare of the police force, pointing out that a well motivated force with adequate equipment will put in its best for security of lives and property.

He stressed the need for  establishment of a police task fund just like in the education sector, where members of the public can contribute funds, saying  if such money is utilised judiciously, it will go a long way in enhancing national security.

The Sultan said this yesterday, when members of the PSC, led by its Chairman, Mr Parry Osayande, paid him a courtesy call in his palace in Sokoto.

He said the issue of police welfare  cannot be over emphasised, adding that an officer who is contented,  whose family is comfortable will always put in his best to ensure a crime-free society.

“As you are aware, there are three things that make up a police force anywhere in the world and this include welfare, equipment and communication instrument, as well as good remuneration to boost their morale. Thus, a police officer who is adequately remunerated and equipped is an asset to us and as such, will always give his best," he said.  Earlier, Osayande said PSC is determined to reposition the force so that it can be service and people-oriented  and also  be able to deliver service to the admiration of Nigerians.
