Two Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG)
were yesterday promoted the rank of Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIG)
while 10 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DC) were promoted to Commissioners of
Police (CP).

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mike Okiro said
while decorating the officers with their ranks that the promotion was based on
merit. “The officers are loyal and hardworking,” he said.

Those promoted to the rank of DIG are Israel O.
Ajao and Declan S. Uzoma while the new CP’s included Ali Amodu, Joel K.
Theophilus, Umaru Sule, Maduaeke Dax Uzu and Julius Ishola. Others are Moses
Onireti, Patrick Chuba Egbuniwe, Christian Olakpe, Olayinka B. Balogun and
Chinweke Asadu.

Another 6 were promoted to AIG’s from CP’s. They
are Emmanuel I. Ezeolue, Mohhammed Yesufu, Julian Okpaleke, Saleh Abubakar,
Johnson Uzuegbunam and Moses O. Anegbode

Reform: Police Service Commission seeks N420bn Fund -Osayande

The Police Service Commission has said it requires an allocation of N420bn annually for five years to implement its reform of the force..

The Chairman of the commission, Mr. Parry Osayande, said this on Wednesday in Kaduna when he visited the state’s Acting Governor, Mr. Patrick Yakowa.

Osayande said the amount would be used in providing adequate logistics, infrastructure and training of policemen to meet international standards.

Some of the National Daily Newspapers in their publications of Monday, 26th January, 2009 reported an alleged threat by a segment of the Nigeria Police to embark on a strike action over the non-release of promotions of certain cadres of Officers.
